Climate Action California recently launched a disinformation/misinformation team in recognition of the flood of “fake news” we’re all exposed to these days, and to strategize how to counteract it. We’re not the only ones engaging with this important issue! Our friends at the Sierra Club have introduced the Truth Tellers Campaign, which makes it easy to quickly and conveniently share accurate information about the climate crisis—using our own social media accounts. Membership in the Sierra Club not required!
To start, click on the link above. No need to donate per the popups; select the Sign Up Now button. You'll complete a simple questionnaire identifying the social media accounts you use, your comfort level using them, and the climate concerns that are a priority for you. There is also an introductory guide available to help get you up and running!
To start, make sure you’re already following the Sierra Club’s social media accounts on each platform you’re using (links: X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads, TikTok). If not, now’s the time!
Within a few days you'll begin to receive action emails from the Sierra Club with recent Sierra Club posts and suggested posts of your own, responses or comments. The suggestions are meant to be guidelines — you are strongly encouraged to use your own words and to tell personal stories so that the posts are varied and authentic.
Long story short: the Sierra Club Truth Tellers Campaign offers climate activists a user-friendly avenue for helping to spread accurate climate information and counter misinformation and disinformation. Try it out!
And while you’re at it, make sure you’re following Climate Action California on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads and BlueSky! (We’re even on Mastadon!) Let’s work together to get the facts and the truth out there in front of as many people as we can!
